Course Objectives
Padova-Tulane Xchange (wiki-odeo-skype)
Linguistic aims:
- To improve students’ receptive skills in L2 via informal communication between students in L1 in wiki and odeo.
- To improve students’ written production skills in L2 via formal production of contents in wiki.
- To develop students’ oral abilities in L2 via interviews in Skype.
Inter-cultural aims:
- To help students learn about various aspects of the culture of the language they are studying (Italian for Tulane students, English for Padova students), with particular reference to:
- Italian literature (1. Machiavelli 2. Ariosto 3. Goldoni, la commedia 4.Silvio Pellico, l'indipendenza italiana 5.Leopardi - Manzoni 6. Il futurismo, Pirandello 7.Ungaretti, Montale , Buzzati, Calvino 8. Morante, Moravia, Il conformista 9 Pasolini, film in particolare vedranno "il Vangelo secondo S.Matteo" e "La ricotta")
- aspects of student life in respective countries
- To raise students’ awareness of cultural differences.
Other aims:
- To develop students' competency in the use of wikis and collective authoring.
- To develop students' practical research skills using online information networks as they look for, find and share online resources.
- To develop students' reflective, critical and analytical thinking skills.
- To help students learn to write an encyclopedia entry based on Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View (NPOV) policy, with its requirement to present both (or the many) sides of an argument.
- To help students learn to negotiate meaning via the comment function of the wiki if and when conflict should arrive.
