I'm 25 (for a few days!) and I'm attending the second year of Bioengineering (specialistic corse), I hope to take my degree this year.

 

I live in Padova, but I come from Brugnera (near Pordenone, 100 km from Padova).

I like reading, swimming, playing with video games, listening to music and also nature. In fact, when I have a free day, I go to the mountains (possibly by motorbike) to go climbing or to a lake for a swim.

The problem is that I don't have much free time.

 

I expect to practise my English and learn something more about America.

12th February

 

Last week I spoke with Skype for the first time and I talked to Matthew.

Before the discussion I was impatient and also afraid because my English isn't good and I was terrified to look foolish.

At the end I was happy, I overcame my timidity and I have a very good experience.

I had a difficulty to speak English because I didn't come to mind the word that I wished to say.

During the conversation I spoke English and Matthew spoke Italian, I think it was a good exercise to improve our L2.

I'm very happy!

12th Febraury

 

Today I spoke about the environment and recycling.

I thought it was a problem in US like in Italy, but I discovered that in America there aren't a politicy for this problem, they lead out in the face of us.

Matthew told me that if you want to do recycling you have to pay. I think it's a big mistake of the politician.

I was surprised that Matthew didn't know that is a possibility to generate electicity by garbage dump.

 

In that conversation the problems that i encountered had been the unknown words (although i prepare some of them before at home) and to describe some situations, i knew what i wanted to say but i didn't know how to say. It's a big problem that i wish to cope with and overcome (at least in part) in this course.

4th March

 

Last week i talk to Matthew about polics and politicians.

Matthew work for the Obama's political campaign.

In America there are only two political party with some divisions in each party, but it isn't difficult to have a coalition. It's most different than in Italy because we have a lot of party and they don't agree with other party. This is a big problem in italy and i think this is the biggest cause that toppled the last government!

In US there are two government cameras: House of Representatives and Senate, similar to italy; but there is a big different: in Italy there are more politician in each cameras than in US (Camera dei Deputati=630      House of Representatives=434

I was surprised and also terrified, because in the US are more people and countrys than in italy!

 

Matthew said me that CNN and SNBS are serious channels to understand the politics, and the bests newspapers are "New York Times" and "Washington Post", instead the "New Orleans post" isn't good because the news concern expecilly the crimes in NO.

 

 

 

Today, instead, Matthew and I talked about the immigrants and the crime that is connected to the immigration.

In US the crime is linked to drugs, prostitution and alcoholism, and there are a stricter laws than in italy, expecially for the alcoholism. The US fight the crime with increasing of the policemen.

In the big cities there are separated schools for children that speak in a foreign language. I think a first solution for this problem but in the same breath the integration will not be.

 

Today it rains and the wind blows hard, I'm cold and I'm tired, so I finished here my english time.
