Alessandra Teso

Hello! My name is Alessandra, I'm 23 and come from Padova, where I live with my parents (my brother has just married so there are now only three of us at home!). I'm studying English and German at the University and this should be my last year as a student...I really want to find a job as soon as possible and be economically indepentent from my parents!Last year I had the occasion of working as an Italian teacher to foreign students and it was a very nice experience.

This is me ready to play a volleyball match!I've been playing it for so many years and since 2000 I've been playing competitively with my team!Next week the new championship is going to start...I hope it will be a good year!!!

I think culture is the mix of everything concearns one particular group of people which shares habits, ideas, language living in the same country or simply in the same zone of a country. I'm thinking about the way of behaving and thinking, the food and the clothes, what is considered normal and what seems to be strange...

I added my ideas to Alessandra's definition...

Culture is a complex whole which includes traditions, beliefs, art, moral, customs and all the abilities and habits acquired by the human being as a member of society. (Edward Tylor)

This means culture is complex, i.e. it is made up of many different parts (each aspect of one's life where man is the main character with his actions and feelings and thoughts); it is acquired, i.e. it is not something you're born with, but something you learn (I'm thinking about the way of behaving and thinking, food and clothes, what is considered normal and what seems to be strange...); and it is connected with a society, with a group (a group which shares habits, ideas, language living in the same country or simply in the same part of a country). Each society, each group has its own culture.

Moreover, I like the definition of CULTURE AS SYMBOLS made on Wikipedia:

there is a "symbolic gloss which allows social actors to use common symbols to communicate and understand each other while still imbuing these symbols with personal significance and meanings".
